Been with GSK Consumer Healthcare since 2003 he is currently the Director Regulatory and Government Affairs for Middle East & Africa. Been the Chairman of the Middle East Self Medication IndustryMESMI which started in2004 and now the Vice Chairman of the newly re-structured entity MENAP-SMI a member of the World Self Medication Industry Association WSMI in Switzerland. Through his work in GSK he lead several projects to support introduction ofnew innovations as well as geographic expansion. Lobbying for Self -Care and Value of Self Medicationlegislation is a passion and for several years Mr. Sawiris led different lobbying activities in the regionthat supported the creation ofOTC classification system, switching guidelines, OTC advertising laws, allowing distribution in mass market and liberalisation of prices. The changes were achieved through partnership with different health and government authoritiesin the region promoting what could be the best for patients, governments and the industry. His first appointment was with Eli Lilly and Company in 1993 where he spent 11 years in different commercial and regulatory affairs management roles.Mr. Sawiris was born in Egypt, he holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical science in 1993 and obtained a Master of Business Administration from the UK.In his free time, he enjoys travelling, exploring new places and understanding different cultures
